In a horrific incident, a minor, a patient of blood cancer,  was reportedly raped twice on the same day at a village on the outskirts of the state capital.

According to police sources here, the 14-year old, resident of Sarojini Nagar area in the state capital, was gang raped by two people while she was returning home from a nearby market late on Saturday evening.

The culprits were known to the minor and had offered to drop her home, police said adding that they took her to a secluded spot near a village and reportedly gang-raped her.

The victim, after being dumped on the roadside, sought help of a passer by to reach home. The passer by, instead of helping her, forcibly took her to the nearby fields and reportedly raped her.

The minor, who was unable to walk properly, managed to reach home early on Sunday morning, the police said. She was admitted to the hospital.

A case is registered in this regard and one of the accused, from whom the victim had sought help after being gang-raped,  has been arrested, the police said adding that a hunt has been launched to nab the others.

The incident, which came at a time when the UP police was observing 'Nari Suraksha Saptah' (women protection week), has hugely embarrassed the state government.

The opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) accused the state government of failing to ensure women's safety. ''Crime against women has risen sharply under the present dispensation....women do not feel safe in the state,'' said SP leader Rajendra Chaudhary here.
