JOIN USSurfing Swami Foundation organised a massive beach clean-up and awareness programme at Surfing point at Mulki-Hejamady on Sunday.
The clean up drive was initiated in association with Mantra Surf Club which was funded and supported by Chris Burkard Studio and Prana.
A total of 80 volunteers including students, enthusiastic locals and members of Mantra Surf Club participated in the drive. Over 200 bags of plastics, glass bottles, rubber and bio-degradable wastes were collected and segregated, before being transported to the waste treatment plant.
Panambur Beach Development Corporation chief executive officer Yatish Baikampady and Kanara Small Industries' Association secretary Gaurav Hegde were present.
They stressed the need for carrying out beach clean up programmes regularly.
Spreading awareness
The Surfing Swami Foundation is determined to play a major role in educating and supporting these initiatives with government agencies, private organisations and corporate bodies.
The Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting, nurturing and empowering young underprivileged boys and girls from coastal villages with surfing being one of the key proponents. Ocean conservation and awareness programmes are also some of the initiatives taken up by Surfing Swami Foundation.
