Toss, Bumrah no-ball turning points: Pothas

Sri Lanka head coach Nic Pothas picked two turning points in their seven-wicket victory. First the toss, which Sri Lanka won, and the second, the no-ball bowled by Jaspreet Bumrah to Upul Tharanga just when India had begun to look threatening.

Bumrah had got Tharanga, who went on to make 49, in the sixth over, but the  review showed he had overstepped. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissing Lahiru Thirimanne in the seventh over to make it 19/2, India could have been better placed had Bumrah not erred.

Pothas said: "I firmly believe that there were two massive moments in the game. Toss was one and the no-ball to Upul Tharanga. If you lose another one we are suddenly 15 for three and that is a hugely different situation. These two situations for me defined the day."

"It had to be said that the toss was massive in the game. Thisara Perera is my man of the match for calling it right."

Pothas was naturally delighted with the win. "Yes, it is a good place to be. We enjoyed the win. We haven't had lots of success in white ball cricket. We are in a position now when things are quite settled, players understand roles. We used a bit of strategy and very pleased with the way things worked out for us today."

He showered praise on Suranga Lakmal and experienced all-rounder Angelo Mathews. "Suranga is a world class bowler. If you give him the conditions that suits him, doesn't matter to whom he bowls, he is always going to make life difficult. In his career so far he has had the joy of bowling on flat, dry wickets. You give him some green, he will be brilliant. In South Africa at the start of this year, he was superb again. He is a class performer and great guy to have in the team.

"Angelo looked great again. The physio has done some great work with him. He is not full capacity yet. The way he handled that situation with the bat showed how important he is for us."
