The state Cabinet on Monday gave its approval for launching "Seva Sindhu," a common citizen service portal to provide government-related services and other information in one place.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law Minister T B Jayachandra said the portal will help citizens to avail of government services of any department in one place. It will also provide other useful information like local events, employment opportunities among others.

The portal can be accessed online by the public from anywhere and also identified service delivery centers at the district, taluk, or sub-divisional level. Some of the services to be delivered through Seva Sindhu include income, domicile, caste, birth, death certificates, issue of ration card, approval of social welfare schemes like old age pensions, family pensions, information about government schemes, entitlements, assessment of taxes among others.

In another decision, the Cabinet decided to come out with a policy to set up Special Agriculture Zones on the lines of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) for industries to add value to farm produce and make agriculture a profitable venture. The objective is to encourage farmers use the latest technology for increasing agricultural productivity by providing better facilities in the specially carved out zones, Jayachandra said.

The government is also contemplating to provide efficient power, water supply, storage and transportation facilities for agricultural activities once the zones are carved out.
