10th Biffes from Feb 22 to March 1

Last Updated 11 December 2017, 20:07 IST

The 10th Bengaluru International Film Festival (Biffes) will be held from February 22 to March 1, 2018. Films will be screened in Bengaluru and Mysuru simultaneously, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Monday after releasing the logo for the festival.

Sources, however, insist that films might not be screened in Mysuru. They said Siddaramaiah, who earlier held a meeting with the organisers, had directed them to restrict the screenings to Bengaluru as the response in Mysuru poor.

The film festival will be inaugurated in front of the Vidhana Soudha. Unlike last year, the valedictory function, too, will be held in Bengaluru.

A lifetime achievement award with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh will be presented on the occasion. The films will be based on the themes of human rights and social justice. They will be shown on 11 screens at PVR Cinemas in Orion Mall, Rajajinagar. While tickets are priced at Rs 300 (per pass) for film society members, film researchers/scholars and film students, the general public will be charged Rs 600 (per pass).

The film festival has been made a paid event this year at the behest of the organisers.

Film City

Siddaramaiah has directed officials to make preparations for the ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the Film City in Mysuru in February 2018. Though the government has allotted 350 acres of land for the project, there has been an inordinate delay in its implementation. The chief minister directed the Tourism Department officials to ensure there was no further delay.
