Union Chemicals & Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar has suggested to name upgraded Hubballi Airport after Jagajyoti Basaveshwar.

Like Bengaluru airport named after Kempe Gowda, Hubballi Airport should be named after Jagajyoti Basaveshwar who propagated universal humanism. State Government should send a proposal in this regard, so that the Union Cabinet can approve that, Mr Ananth Kumar added.

Earlier, Vishwa Lingayat Mahasabha also demanded to name the airport after Jagajyoti Basaveshwar.

Meanwhile, residents of Gokul, Tarihal and Gamanagatti areas urged the ministers to take steps to name the airport after Sri Siddharooda Swamiji. Karnataka Sangrama Sene submitted a memorandum seeking Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna's name for the upgraded airport.

Viewers' gallery demanded

The demand to have a gallery for the public to watch the landing and take off of aircrafts at the upgraded Hubballi Airport was heard at its inaugural function.

Corporator Ramappa Badiger submitted a memorandum to the civil aviation minister, seeking direction to the officials to construct a viewers' gallery at the airport, for the benefit of school children and citizens.

MLA Aravind Bellad requested the minister to arrange viewers' gallery at all airports including Hubballi, especially for school children, and to add more local touch to the new terminal building in Hubballi.
