Building plan violation on the rise in the city

Last Updated 12 December 2017, 19:48 IST

Construction of houses by violating building plan is on the rise in the city. Consider this. As many as 16,500 property owners have obtained building plan approval from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), out of which only 110 of them have received their occupancy certificates (OCs).

In other words, 16,390 property owners have violated the sanctioned plan approved by the Palike, said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad. The matter was discussed during the special council meeting on Tuesday at the BBMP office.

"We ask property owners for a security deposit while obtaining their building plan approvals. The deposits are refunded while obtaining the OCs. However, since many people have not claimed their OCs for a long time, the BBMP has accumulated Rs 100 crore in form of such deposits.

"When buildings are provided with power and water connections even with sanctioned plan violations, owners tend not to obtain an OC. From now on, we will take a strict action against those who have not built the house according to the plan," he said.
