Do not render service based on caste or religion, says Vala

Governor Vajubhai Vala, on Thursday, stressed that people should be served on the basis of humanity and not on the basis of caste or religion.

After inaugurating the District Red Cross Bhavan on Salagame Road here he said that it is not right to render service differentiating the people as Hindus, Muslims, Christians or Jains. "India is a secular country. Serving the people is our tradition and culture. Hence, caste or religion should not interfere in serving the country," he opined.

Everyone should strive for eradicating poverty, malnutrition, and unemployment in the country. Women should be provided opportunities. The society which respects women has seen great leaps in development, he opined.

The Governor called upon the people to follow the ideologies of Swami Vivekananda. The learned should take steps to educate the illiterate. The financially weak families should be adopted and necessary help extended, he advised.

Humanity is the basic motto for Hindu, Muslim, Christianity and Jain religions. Those without humanity are not considered humans. Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita has also stressed on helping those in need, he pointed out.

'No teatime politics'

Every citizen should think about the welfare of the country. There is no meaning in discussing the politics in Delhi and Mysuru, during teatime. Every person should understand that work is worship and think about what steps should be taken to serve the society, he said.

District in-charge Minister A Manju said, "In all, Rs 22 lakh was donated by the legislators for the construction of the Red Cross Bhavan."

Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri said, "The district administration would extend necessary cooperation to the Red Cross Society, that was established in the district in the year 2000."

Indian Red Cross Society district president H P Mohan, MLA H S Prakash, and ZP president Shwetha Devaraj were present.
