Vijay Diwas to be observed at War Memorial

Vijay Diwas will be celebrated at the War Mmemorial in Kadri Park on December 16 at 9 am to commemorate India's victory in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. The celebrations have been planned by DK District Ex-Servicemen's Association in association with Lions Club, Nitte Education Trust and Shri Shasthavu Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust.

District Ex-Servicemen's Association president Vikram Dutta recalled that during the Indo-Pak war, Pakistan Armed Forces, police and civilians numbering about 93,000, under the Command of Pakistani Lt Gen Mak Niazi, surrendered to Lt Gen J S Arora of the Indian Army at Ramna Race Course at Dhaka, the capital of erstwhile East Pakistan on December 16, 1971 after a short war of 13 days.

This historic event paved the way to the formation of the independent country of Bangladesh and Sheikh Mujibur Rehman became the founder prime minister of Bangladesh.

Stating that wreaths/flowers will be offered at the War Memorial at Kadri Hills (opposite Kadri police station) at 9 am on December 16, he said ex-servicemen, police personnel, as well as members of the public, would take part in the programme and pay respect to those soldiers who fought for the country and laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Association secretary S M Airan, Treasurer Col Balakrishna, Col N S Bhandary and Member Bhadrayya were present.
