Last Updated 15 December 2017, 15:49 IST

At least 38 policemen and several others were injured after a mob went on a rampage in Udaipur against the arrest of Shambulal Raigar, who had brutally murdered a labourer from West Bengal recently.

Prohibitory orders were clamped in Udaipur and Rajsamand districts and around 150 people were arrested.

Mobile internet services have been suspended.

The injured policemen include an additional SP, two deputy SPs and three inspectors.

Several policemen who suffered severe injuries on their head are critical.

Inspector General of Police (Udaipur range) Anand Srivastava said, "The police have formed a team to check online hate messages in the two districts. The cyber cell is keeping an eye and we will not let hate crime spread."

On Thursday, Updesh Rana Thakur, a member of Vishwa Sanatan Sangh, was supposed to take out a rally in support of Raiger but was arrested by the police.

After Section 144 was imposed in Udaipur district, several Hindu organisations came out onto the streets and protested in support of Raigar.

The police had to baton charge them to bring the situation under control.

Earlier this month, Raigar had hacked to death a 45-year-old daily wager from West Bengal, Mohammad Afrajul, set his body on fire and got his 13-year-old nephew to record the incident.

In the video, he is heard ranting against "love jihad".

Two days ago, the police froze Sita's, Raigar's wife, bank account after about Rs 3 lakh poured into it.

Messages were circulated through social media groups with the account number and IFSC code asking people to help Raigar bear legal expenses.
