The X'mas tree at this church is truly green

Last Updated 16 December 2017, 19:07 IST

The Mar Thoma Syrian Church  on Primrose Road will celebrate its 10th 'Green Christmas' this year.

The church adopted the tradition of celebrating the festival in an eco-friendly manner by using recycled products.

This year's 25-foot Christmas tree is  made of  coconut shells, leaves and straw, collected from members of the church. Around 20 parishioners  worked on the tree for three weeks, painting the materials and using a pulley to put them up.

In the previous years, the tree was decorated using plastic bottles, old tyres, cloth scraps and newspapers, among other things.

The inaugural lighting of  the tree will be done on Sunday by Reverend Dr Sham P Thomas, church vicar, followed by the carol service in the evening.
