Except one, exit polls in Gujarat way off mark

All exit polls, except one, were way off the mark on Gujarat poll outcome, while almost all got it right in Himachal Pradesh.

Only India Today-Axis got the figures almost right for Gujarat as it predicted 99 to 113 seats for BJP and 68-82 for Congress. BJP closed with 99 seats, while Congress and allies bagged 80. Others won three seats.

Today's Chanakya-News24 had predicted 126 to 146 seats, the highest for BJP, while it gave Congress 36 to 58 seats. The CSDS-ABP gave BJP 117 and Congress 64.

VMR-Times Now poll gave 113 to BJP, while Congress was predicted to bag 66, leaving three seats for 'others'. The Republic TV and CVoter-TV9 predicted 108 for BJP and 74 for Congress. VDPA Associates predicted 142 seats for BJP, leaving just 37 seats for Congress. CNX-NewsX poll gave 115 seats for BJP and 70 for Congress.

HP predictions

In Himachal Pradesh, CNX poll came close to the result as it predicted 46 seats for BJP and 21 for Congress. BJP won 44 seats and Congress 21.

Today's Chanakya gave 48 to 62 seats for BJP, while leaving Congress far behind with six to 20 seats. CSDS Poll gave 29 seats to Congress and BJP 38. Axis' figure for BJP was 47 to 55 and Congress 13-20.
