The Rajanukunte police are on a hunt for a real estate businessman who slapped and belted a private school's headmistress in her office on Monday for not paying the interest on a loan that she had taken.

The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera which the police have retrieved from the school as the evidence.

The victim, Asha Rao, is the headmistress of Aryan Public School in Singanayakanahalli. She had borrowed a loan of Rs 70,000 from Ramakrishnappa, who runs a private financing firm in the area. According to police, Asha failed to pay the interest amount for some time which irked Ramakrishnappa.

On Monday afternoon, around 2:45 pm, Ramakrishnappa barged into Asha's chamber. He slapped the headmistress several times before verbally abusing her.

The accused then pulled out a belt and began to whip her. The assault continued for some time before an angry Ramakrishnappa stormed out of the office. The victim claims he warned her of dire consequences.

Ramakrishnappa took away her mobile phone with him. As the assault took place inside Asha's chamber, neither the staff nor the teachers got to know about the assault even though it was a working day of the school.

The victim immediately brought the incident to management's notice and filed a complaint with the Rajajunkunte police. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of assault, outraging the modesty of women, robbery and also under various sections of Karnataka Prohibition of Charging of Exorbitant Interest Act, 2 against Ramakrishnappa.

Initially, the police detained the accused's son, Jagadish, who is a local BJP Yuva Morcha leader for questioning. But the victim confirmed to the police that Jagadish had nothing to do with the attack. "We have formed a team to nab the accused who is on the run and efforts are on to trace him," a senior police officer said.
