Amazon, Myntra take on fashion war

Last Updated 20 December 2017, 16:17 IST

As the season  for festive and end of season sales arrives, ecommerce majors Amazon and Myntra are ready to kick-off their respective fashion sales from December 22-25.

While Amazon  asserts  itself as the country's largest online fashion destination, with fashion as one of its top three categories, Myntra, along with Jabong,  is considered India's leading online fashion portal. Both, Amazon and Flipkart-backed Myntra, are progressively taking the category more seriously. The former recently set up one of its four Fashion Imaging Studios in India, and the latter is looking at achieving profitability in the next financial quarter.  These sales may have some interesting consequences.

Myntra's 'End of Reason Sale' (EORS) is focused on Tier-II and Tier-III cities, expecting  60% of its sales from such regions, and Amazon's 'Wardrobe Refresh Sale' will  enable special offers to its Prime members, Amazon Pay users  along with offers like 'early bird', 'happy hours', 'brand hours' and' final sale day', which will be characterised by incremental discounts, and flash sales.  Amazon has enabled customers to create wishlists, and 300 lucky winners will receive an additional Rs  250 Amazon Pay Balance before the sale goes live, a company release said.

Myntra, on its part, has introduced its social shopping feature known as 'Myntra Shopping Groups' this season.  Group members will be eligible for rewards based on the size of their shopping bags. "Customers will also be eligible for getting early access to the sale through VIP slots. Based on its success, Myntra expects five lakh groups with 15 lakh people to be created for this EORS, which is a 40% increase over the previous edition," a company release said.
