3 escape with injuries as car falls off 14-ft-high flyover

Last Updated 21 December 2017, 01:59 IST

Two  sisters and  their male friend sustained grievous injuries  as their car plunged from the 15-foot-high flyover on Ballari Road in Yelahanka, North Bengaluru, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Varun Jain (31), of Lavelle Road, lost control of Skoda Laura (RJ 14/CH 2345)  and crashed it into the parapet of the flyover. The automobile  went on to  fall upside down on the service road at the Raithara Santhe junction. Rachita Reddy (23) and Chitra Reddy (25), sisters from Benson Town, were also in the car. All the three sustained multiple fractures. While Chitra broke her left leg, Varun suffered head injuries.

Passersby, including a cab driver, pulled the three out of the car and took them to the nearby Apoorva Hospital. Doctors said the victims were out of danger.

The Yelahanka police said it was a miracle that there was no fatality. The impact would have been far worse had the accident occurred during peak hours.

The three had gone to the airport to receive Jain's father who was to arrive from abroad at 2 am. But they didn't find him even after waiting for almost two hours. His mobile phone was switched off, too. They assumed he had  hailed a cab to go home, and decided to leave.

The  accident occurred during their return journey. Police said they would question the victims once they recovered to ascertain the cause of the accident.
