Need to worship Hanuman, not Tipu Sultan: Yogi

Last Updated 21 December 2017, 18:19 IST

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's call to people to bring a government that supports worship of Lord Hanuman and not Tipu Sultan, and to join 'development path' being promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, set the BJP's campaigning for forthcoming Assembly elections in motion in the district, and it also probably hinted at the main issues to be taken up by the BJP leaders during their electioneering.

After inaugurating the BJP's district-level Parivartana Yatra convention at Nehru Stadium in the City on Thursday, Yogi Adityanath not just lauded the 'development model' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but also charged that the Congress government in the State is not at all interested in development, but is just dividing the society on caste and religion basis.

"When Lord Hanuman is being worshiped across the country, the Congress government in Karnataka, the State known for Vijayanagar Empire, is promoting worship of Tipu Sultan. The Congress is insulting our rich tradition.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should have respected the feelings of the people, while making statements about beef consumption. With continuous murder and poor law and order situation, 'Rakshak' has become 'Bhakshak' here, and anarchy is prevailing," Yogi Adityanath observed.

'Cong is anti-development

The Uttar Pradesh government waived off Rs 36,000 crore farm loans with both co-operative and nationalised banks to help 86 lakh farmers. But, the Congress government in Karnataka does not want to give anything to the farmers and other needy people, but wants to spend everything on elections, Yogi Adityanath charged.

The Union Government has given several schemes and has given huge funds to the State, but the government here is not focusing on development. People have to decide to move unitedly on the path of development. Like what people in Gujarat did, keeping faith in Narendra Modi's development agenda, people here too should slap the Congress and should teach a lesson for divide and rule politics, he said, adding that people will not be allowed to thread development path if Congress continues in power.

'Display Modi's photo'

State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa advised BJP workers to display Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph in front of fair price shops, as the Centre is spending Rs 29 per kg of rice being distributed under 'Anna Bhagya' scheme.

He also criticised the State Government, charging that the Siddaramaiah-led government is not working for development, but is dividing the society. He also lauded the policy being followed by the Union Government.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council K S Eshwarapa, MP Pralhad Joshi, former ministers Govind karjol, R Ashoka, Basavaraj Bommai, and BJP National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao also leveled inefficiency, negligence, corruption and society division charges against the Congress government.

MP G M Siddheshwar, former ministers C M Udasi and Laxman Savadi, and other leaders of the BJP were present.
