MCC drops proposal to draw water from Lakhya dam

Last Updated 30 December 2017, 14:47 IST

Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said that the proposal to draw water from Lakhya Dam  built by Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) at Kudremukh has been dropped.

Speaking at the council meeting here on Saturday he said that the Supreme Court had not permitted the Mangaluru City Corporation to pump water from the dam. As the pipelines are filled with silt, the required quantity of water could not be drawn from the dam.

Illegal building

Corporator Mohammed said that a building is coming up illegally on 3 acres of land earmarked for Vajpayee Vasathi Yojane. In spite of bringing the issue to the notice of the Commissioner, no action has been initiated.

Corporator Dayananda asked why there was a delay in finalising the list of beneficiaries for the housing scheme in Mangaluru North Assembly constituency. The MCC Commissioner replied to this by saying that Ashraya Samithi headed by MLA Mohiuddin Bava has finalised 600 beneficiaries for the housing scheme. A Detailed Project Report has been prepared and submitted to the state government. Once the DPR is approved a tender will be invited for the same. In Mangaluru South Assembly constituency, the tender has been invited for work on the housing projects.

Mini town hall

When Councillor Harinath raised the issue of the false ceiling for mini Town Hall in Mangaluru, an official said that Rs 45 lakh has been earmarked for the acoustic system in the mini town hall. As the hall was originally constructed as a dining hall, it would be difficult to provide the acoustic system. A consultancy from Hyderabad has agreed to work on the modalities and the MCC is waiting for their report on the same.

To another query, an officer said that the Kavoor market will be completed by March.
