Bangarapet: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that from January 27, KGF will be hived-off as a separate taluk, as part as a state-wide exercise to carve out 50 new taluks.

Addressing a public meeting at the junior college grounds here on Saturday, he informed that the gazette notification is ready and one month is available for people who oppose it to make representations; and that was causing the delay.

The CM said that Rs 2 crore had been released for the state's first chief minister K C Reddy's memorial. Reddy's statue would be installed in front of the Vidhana Soudha. An Indira canteen would be opened at Bangarapet from January he informed.

Siddaramaiah said that Bangarapet MLA S N Narayanaswamy was an 'expert' in getting funds for development in his constituency. The MLA has done much for Bangarapet and will surely be blessed by people, he hoped.

The CM said that rumours were being spread that the water from K C Valley causes cancer. "The water will be treated at two stages, and three if required. There is no cause for anxiety," Siddaramaiah assured.

The K C Valley project envisages double-treating sewage waters from Koramangala and Challaghatta valleys of Bengaluru and diverting the treated waters to Kolar's lakes by pipeline.

"Let State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa and Katta Subramanaya who took a bribes by cheque, and call the Congress government corrupt, come for a public debate," Siddaramaiah challenged.

He said that JD(S) will not secure even 25 seats in the state in the upcoming polls. "They are opportunists," he alleged.

Political awareness is high in Bangarpet and KGF regions opined district in-charge Ramesh Kumar who spoke at the meeting; adding, it is the reason why all political parties had set up offices there.

He said that it was wrong of politicians to speak irresponsibly. "Leaders must act as role models for others and not laughing-stocks," he added.
