The state government has decided to withdraw lands granted to Rashtrotthana Parishat and Mythic Society in Bengaluru on lease, during the previous BJP regime.

Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa on Monday said the decision has been taken as the organisations had failed to utilise the land for the "specified" purpose.

Speaking to reporters, Thimmappa said that while a notice has been served to withdraw about 10 acres given to the Rashtrotthana Parishat at Thanisandra; the department had already withdrawn land granted to Mythic Society.

When he was the chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had allotted prime commercial and residential plots worth crores of rupees to organisations affiliated to the RSS, including the Parishat, for a period of 30 years, for a lease amount of less than Rs 1 lakh per annum.

Likewise, Yeddyurappa's successor D V Sadananda Gowda had landed in trouble after he allotted 10 acres of gomala land to Mythic Society in Yelahanka in Bengaluru North.

Thimmappa said that the department had been successful in clearing encroachments on government land in Bengaluru Urban district. Encroachments had been cleared on 11,860 acres of the total 34,111 acres of land that has been infringed upon.

Land to the extent of 1,618 acres cleared in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits will be used for planting 10 lakh saplings, he added.

While 1,500 acres will be used for housing scheme; 78 acres will be used to build schools and colleges. About 45 acres will be used for building government hospitals; 510 acres as burial ground; 468 acres will be utilised under the Ashraya scheme; 69 acres for playgrounds; 48 acres for building quarters for revenue officials and 20 acres for constructing an international auditorium. Earlier in the day, Thimmappa had said that  the 50 newly-carved out taluks will come into existence in the next 15 days.  He said that except for three to four taluks, offices of the remaining taluks will start functioning shortly.
