Kashmir continued reel under intense cold wave conditions with the night temperatures in Kargil town of Ladakh region plummeting to a bone-chilling minus 20.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday making people shiver.
A Met official said Kargil recorded minus 16.2 degree Celsius, the lowest this season, while neighbouring Leh town was the second coldest recorded place with a low of minus 16.6 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.1 degree Celsius. Gulmarg was the coldest place in the Valley with a minimum temperature of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius.
The mercury at the famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at minus 6.1 degree Celsius, the official said.
The MeT Department has predicted further fall in night temperatures over the next few days.
Many waterbodies, including the famous Dal Lake, were partially frozen with the intensification in the bone-chilling cold.
The problems of the residents are compounded by freezing of water taps, pesky power cuts, and development of a thin layer of frost on roads in the morning and evenings.
