St Agnes College centenary celebrations from Jan 12

St Agnes College Mangaluru, established on July 2, 1921, by Mother Mary Aloysia, the Second Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, will complete 100 glorious years in 2021.

The centenary celebrations will be launched on January 12 this year. Several programmes have been planned to commemorate the centenary celebrations, said St Agnes College vice principal Sr Dr Venissa.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, she said that the St Agnes College was the first women's college on the West Coast of India and the second under private management in the whole country.

UGC certification

The College has recently received 'College of Excellence' (CE) certification, from the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. St Agnes College is the first college in the country to go for reassessment and re-accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the fourth time and was awarded an A+ Grade with 3.65/4 CGPA. The College has also recently received the Star College Status from the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The centennial celebrations will be launched at 3.30 pm on January 12 at the college. The centenary logo and Agnesian Alumnae website also will be launched on the occasion, Sr Venissa said.

Projects to mark centenary

Centenary Celebrations Committee alumni convener Dr Meera Aranha said that on the occasion of the centenary of the institution, the St Agnes College Alumni Association has come up with two major projects. A Centenary Memorial Block, a three-storey building of 75,000 square feet comprising an auditorium, library and classrooms will be built. Also, the association will volunteer the construction of 'Veronica Vihar,' a residential home for the differently abled children and adults, she added.

Commerce Department head Dr Deviprabha, student council president Mrunali J P and Alumni Association Mangaluru Unit vice president Sanchiya were present at the press meet.
