As many as 185 trees, which faced the axe to make way for the Gottigere-Nagawara Metro line, will be translocated with the BMRCL deciding to spend Rs 10,750 for each of them.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIMB) campus will become home for 51 of them while the remaining 134 will take root in Shantiniketan Park. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has prepared a budget of Rs 19.88 lakh for the translocation. The trees have been trimmed in preparation for the process, said U A Vasanth Rao, public relations officer, BMRCL. "A Metro station will come up near the IIMB for which the site has been selected. There are 51 trees in the area which will be shifted to the campus," he said. Raghbir Singh, chief administrative officer colonel (retd), IIMB, said, the BMRCL had earlier sought permission to shift 35 trees.

"We had agreed to shift 35 trees. We have no objections if they want to translocate 51 of them," he said.
