Alleging that the Police Department is not taking enough preventive measures against thefts, people of Ammatti village staged a protest on Wednesday.

The protest meet was led by Ammatti Kodava Samaja, Chamber of Commerce and local coffee growers.

Addressing the protesters, Jeppu Acchappa said that there have been continues cases of theft in the village. But, the Police Department is not taking necessary measures, he added.

Multiple complaints

The villagers, meanwhile, urged the administration to repair the bad roads and also control the illicit drug menace and illegal sand transportation.

The Pandyanda Belyappa road, which links Ammatti-Gonikoppa, is in a pathetic condition. The bridge work on the stretch has been affected by procrastination. The contractor responsible for the same should be taken to task, the villagers said.

The people formed a human chain and blocked the road for an hour.

15 days

Visiting the spot, PWD assistant executive engineer Suresh assured that the road will be repaired within 15 days.

A memorandum was submitted to CPI Kumara Aradhya on the occasion, requesting good quarters for the staff at Ammatti Police station, installing CCTV cameras in the town and to check the menace caused by an illegal club in market area.

Bose Devaiah warned of conducting the protest again if the demands are not fulfilled within a month.

Kavadichanda Kushalappa, Prince Ganapathy, Chamber of Commerce president Suvin Ganapathy, Gopi Chinnappa and Uddapanda Jagath led the protest.
