The High Court of Karnataka directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to fix potholes, unmarked speed breakers and dividers in the city in four weeks from Thursday.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice H G Ramesh and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar was hearing a petition filed by Dove Drive Without Borders Foundation, regarding accidents and deaths caused due to potholes and speed breakers in the city.

During the hearing, the BBMP counsel sought for more time to which the bench stated that the Palike has to take the required measures within four weeks.

The petitioner had moved the court seeking directions to instal signboards and illuminators, major road dividers and speed breakers on the roads.

According to the petitioner, low visibility owing to rain, pothole-ridden roads are the major cause of accidents in the city, thus making the roads dangerous for vehicle users. The road dividers and speed breakers not being marked and illuminated leading to several fatal accidents, the petition stated.

The petition was disposed of.
