Two arrested for social media post

The Dakshina Kannada Police on Friday arrested two people including an administrator of a WhatsApp group for allegedly posting a message aimed at sowing the seeds of hate and maligning the dignity of a woman.

According to DK Superintendent of Police C H Sudhir Kumar Reddy, the arrested are KSRTC driver Balakrishna Poojary and Sathish. Both are residents of Bantwal and Sathish was an admin of a WhatsApp group.

They had posted messages which can hurt religious feelings of a community as well as demean the modesty of a woman. They had posted the messages in groups named as "Mauri and Pannolibail."

The police said that they are monitoring other WhatsApp groups as well. A case has been registered under IPC Section 153 (a), 354 and 504.
