The BJP-led Centre has shortchanged Karnataka as the state government is yet to receive Rs 11,000 crore from its share of central grants, the ruling Congress said Friday, while hitting back at BJP chief Amit Shah.
Shah had said during his Chitradurga rally recently that the Central grants were not reaching the people of Karnataka because of corruption. "Shah is lying. The Centre is not giving Karnataka its share of grants. The state was to get Rs 95,000 crore, but we have received only Rs 84,000 crore so far," former Union Minister V Dhananjay Kumar told reporters. Kumar, who was earlier with the BJP, joined the Congress last year.
"Shah should know that the Centre gives grants in instalments. New instalment is sanctioned only after usage of the previous one is verified," Kumar said.
