RTPS 8th unit shuts down due to technical glitch

The eighth unit of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) halted its production on Saturday owing to a technical problem.

The officials who visited the spot, informed after an inspection, that the eighth unit which has the capacity to generate 250 megawatts of power, had developed a small glitch. Hence the production was halted. The repair works were already in progress and the unit will resume generating power from Sunday morning, said the sources.

Earlier, due to annual maintenance, the first and second units which also have the capacity to generate 210 megawatt of power, were shut down. The sixth unit too was shut down due to fall in the demand for power. Thus, among the total eight units, four of them are now shut down, thereby reducing the power generation to half, the sources added.
