Bengaluru will host Organics and Millets 2018 International Trade Fair from January 19 to 21  at Bangalore Palace to promote organic and millet food.

Talking to reporters, Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda said: "Karnataka is a major producer and exporter of organic foods. However, there is an immense potential and opportunities in diversifying the product range to include coconut, pulses, aromatic crops, fruits, and other crops.

"The International Trade Fair will be the forum to explore this potential, and help us meet the growing needs of the future," he added.

Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event.

National and international companies engaged in the organic produce business will exhibit their products in over 357 stalls. B2B meetings, international conferences and workshops for farmers will also be conducted.

There will be sessions on Food and Child Nutrition, Healthy Snacking and Weight Management, and Global Value Chain models on the farm to market linkages. Visitors will also be able to get a taste of organic dishes at the Organic Food Court and enjoy cultural programmes.

For the first time, Jaivik India awards will be presented to farmers and others in the organic farming sector.

The Department of Agriculture has organised the event with Karnataka State Agricultural Produce Processing and Export Corporation Limited (KAPPEC) as the co-organiser and International Competence Centre of Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) as its knowledge partner.
