Last Updated 16 January 2018, 13:46 IST

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming controversial film Padmavat will not be screened in Haryana. However, in neighbouring Rajput dominated hill state of Himachal Pradesh, the government will not impose any such restrictions on the release of the movie.

The Haryana government on Tuesday announced a ban on the screening of movie Padmavat in the state. This was disclosed by Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu after the meeting of the state cabinet held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Former BJP convener of the media cell in Haryana, Suraj Pal Amu, had threatened massive agitation in case the movie was allowed to be screened. Amu was the one who announced Rs 10 lakh bounty for anyone who beheaded the filmmaker.

The controversy over the film has left HP unscathed, at least so far. According to sources, newly elected Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has said he respected art and its forms.
