M B Patil, BSY in twitter war, blame each other for fiasco

Last Updated 16 January 2018, 18:01 IST

Tuesday was witness to a twitter war between Water Resources Minister M B Patil and BJP state president B S Yeddyuappa over the Mahadayi river water dispute.

The day began with Patil tweeting on his twitter handle blaming Yeddyurappa for the Mahadayi fiasco. "You are a former chief minister and senior leader. Was all this required ? I do not know whether you will change. People will not spare you, they will teach you a lesson," he twitted. The Congress has been blaming the BJP of betraying   people on Mahadayi by stating that the party had taken the initiative of resolving the dispute.

Within hours, Yeddyurappa tweeted back demanding an explanation from Patil on why he insisted that the dispute should be resolved in one sitting when Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had come forward for talks with Karnataka.

Yeddyurappa accused Patil of derailing the talks at the bud and then putting the blame on the BJP. "Goa CM had come forward to share 7.56 tmcft for drinking water needs but you demanded a full share of 14 tmcft. Was this demand in the interest of people of the state ? You did for political gains," tweeted the former chief minister.

Yeddyurappa stated that following Patil's stand, the Congress leaders in Goa started protesting against any release of Mahadayi waters to Karnataka. "Do you think people are unaware of who created the problem? You should give an explanation to them," Yeddyurappa stated.

Patil responded, "Do not mislead. you must know that our total consumptive claim is 14.98 tmcft in 75 dependable flow and 7 tmcft in surplus flow. But, our government was and is prepared to sign interim agreement with Goa on drinking water for 7.56 tmcft under Kalasa-Bandura project. If you mediate and get a interim agreement signed by Goa government, our Kannadigas will thank you."
