The one-man Commission of Inquiry, appointed to probe the police firing on farmers in Haveri two years back, which claimed two lives, on Friday submitted its report to the Karnataka government.
State's Home Minister Dr V S Acharya received the report from former judge justice K Jagannatha Shetty, who conducted the probe. Acharya refused to divulge contents of the report, but said "the recommendations would be implemented".
Police opened fire on June 10, 2008 in Haveri to quell a group of farmers agitating for supply of fertilizers, leading to the death of two farmers and injuries to six others. The police firing, coming barely two weeks after the first ever BJP Government assumed office, drew sharp criticism from opposition parties, Congress and JDS.
