Workers of the All India United Trade Union Centre protested at Anand Rao Circle on Wednesday, demanding that the central government give ASHA workers, anganwadi staff and mid-day meals the status of government employees.

Members of the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers Association demonstrated in front of the residence of Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda and the office of Union minister Ananth Kumar.

They demanded that the honorarium paid to the 1.3 lakh anganwadi workers and helpers should be increased.

The workers criticised the central government for passing on the responsibility of increasing the amount, to the state government. The protesters demanded that the honorarium for ASHA workers and mid-day meal employees should be increased in the state budget.

The central government has reduced funds for integrated child development and mid-day meal schemes. They later withdrew their protest as Kumar promised that he would hold a meeting on Sunday.
