JOIN USIn an incident that shook the neighbourhood, a 48-year-old businessman's brutally hacked and decomposing body was discovered at his home in Panchasheelanagar in Moodalapalya near Vijayanagar on Saturday night.
The police said Ganesh was a dealer of second-hand vehicles and had recently begun property dealings. His wife Uma and college-going son had discovered the body after returning from Shivamogga on Saturday night.
DCP (West) M N Anucheth said the assailants had stabbed him in his chest, hands and stomach.
The DCP said the police have registered a murder case based on Uma's complaint and are examining CCTV footage collected from nearby areas.
Ganesh and Uma hail from Shivamogga and were residing in the city for the past 20 years. Uma said Ganesh had dropped her and her son, doing bachelor's degree at a private college, at the bus stand at 6 pm on Thursday. After reaching Shivamogga, she called his mobile phone, but there was no response.
Ganesh told Uma he would be going to Chittoor to discuss a property deal and would be back on Saturday evening. So, Uma assumed that he was busy at work. But she grew suspicious when she realised his phone was continuously switched off.
When she returned home on Saturday night, she found the house locked. Uma opened the door with the help of the neighbours and was shocked to see Ganesh lying dead.
She contacted the police and lodged a complaint, saying financial dealings could have been the motive for the murder.
The Vijayanagar police, who suspect the assailants had used a machete to brutally hack Ganesh, said the time of murder would help their investigation. They now await the postmortem report to ascertain the time of death. The police suspect business rivalry or financial dispute as the motive for the chilling murder.
