Rs 1.10 cr to upgrade Koppa bus stand, says Revanna

Transport Minister H M Revanna, on Monday, said that the government will release Rs 1.10 crore for upgrading the bus stand in the town.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new bus stand in the town. He also distributed laptops to students and felicitated KSRTC staff.

The minister said, MLA N Cheluvarayaswamy has requested for the development of the bus stand and the government will release the necessary amount.

He said, 288 KSRTC drivers will be honoured with silver medals during the Republic Day event. He honoured a few drivers with the medals during the programme.

MLC K T Srikantegowda said, many villages in the region are deprived of public transportion and urged the minister to take measures to ply KSRTC buses to neighbouring villages from the town.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) stands second in the world on the service and fleet counts, the KSRTC has received 210 medals, so far, he pointed out.

Zilla Panchayat member Renuka Ramakrishna, Taluk Panchayat president Jayalakshmi Jayaramu, and vice-president B M Raghu were present.

Speaking to reporters, Revanna said, he is a common worker in the party and would contest in the upcoming general elections, if the party leaders issue him a ticket. He said the state government has no connection with the Karnataka bandh called by various organisations on January 25 to protest over Mahadayi River water sharing issue.

'Will win 7 segments'

JD(S) rebel MLA N Cheluvarayaswamy said, he will tender his resignation after the Budget Session and join the Congress party in the presence of All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi.

Congress party is strong in the district and the party will win seven Assembly segments, he said.

Revanna said that he would make sincere attempts to help Koppa town get taluk status.
