A man has filed a domestic violence case against his  wife, much older in age and sought monetary compensation for the 'verbal abuse' he had undergone.

In the case of reverse discrimination , Gogu Ram Kumar's (24) petition was admitted for hearing in the Vijayawada First Additional Chief Metropolitan Court on Tuesday and notices were issued to his wife Sai Chaitanya (28). The case was posted for hearing on 21 February.

According to Kumar's counsel Chaitanya married Kumar in August 2017. However they separated within few months. Kumar has alleged that his wife kept him in the dark about her first marriage and that she had a 12-year-old daughter from the earlier alliance. He further said that Chaitanya has falsely filed a Dowry harassment case against Kumar even after the separation which was mutually agreed upon.

"My client has been paying Rs 8000 every month to her even though he gets a salary of only Rs 10,000. She has been pestering him for more, knowing well about his financial and psychological condition. Kumar is depressed," he said. The counsel has advised Kumar to seek reliefs under the Domestic Violence Act since the Supreme Court had struck down the "Adult Male Person" from the respondent clause. Kumar also submitted audio tapes in which Chaitanya allegedly threatened to harm his family members, in support of his argument.

The victim of domestic violence is seeking relief under section 12 of the Domestic Violence Act including monetary compensation for the mental harassment caused to him, Rs 2.5 lakh he spent on the wedding and protection from her.
