There is a plan for the development of Bunts' Hostel Junction, utilising the Mangaluru City Corporation premium FAR funds, Mangaluru Mayor Kavita Sanil said.

Reacting to a grievance put across by Clarissa from Bunts' Hostel, on the narrow pathway leading to Vasanta Lane, the mayor said that the problem will be solved with the shifting of the Bunts' Hostel bus stand. The existing bus stand will be shifted to a nearby place, as a part of the development of Bunts' Hostel junction, the mayor said and added that the plan and the project cost are yet to be finalised.

Barebail road

Responding to the grievances put forth by Geetha and Mohan from Barebail cross road, the mayor said that asphalting work will be taken up on the road at a cost of Rs 37.5 lakh and tenders have been invited for the same. The callers had complained that asphalt has not been done on the road for the last eight years.

The mayor said that January 27 was the last date for submitting the tender. The road development work will start in February.

'Repair road humps'

Damodar Shenoy said that humps on the road opposite Karavali Utsava grounds have worn out. He had brought it to the notice of MCC six months back and was promised that the humps would be replaced. The work has not been undertaken till now. Sanil promised completion of the work within a week's time.

Francis D'Souza from Bejai suggested constructing humps on the stretch between Lourdes Central School and Vivekananda Garden on Bejai Church Cross Road. The stripes on the existing hump have worn out, he added. The mayor promised to do the needful.

Water and UGD issues

A lady from an apartment at Pacchanadi, the mayor's own ward, said that water supply has been irregular since a month. Mohammed from Suvarna lane, Valencia complained on the same issue.

Jayachandra Poojary from Kulashekhar said that there is no drainage connection for about 10 houses near Dakshina Kannada Milk Union diary.

Jayaram Gowda from Maroli complained that the sewage from the UGD has been flowing in open drains as the sewer pipe from ADB line is cut. No action has been taken despite submitting a memorandum. The engineer concerned said a separate estimate is needed to lay a new pipeline as there has been breakages in several parts of the ADB line.

Sanil directed the MCC officials to take up the works which needed urged attention. Setting the target for completing specific works, the mayor directed the officials to conduct spot inspections at the problematic sites and take up necessary measures as soon as possible.

Some callers complimented the Mayor for addressing to the civic problems in their respective areas and admiring her commitment, they wished that Sanil be elected as the mayor for the next term as well.
