DH News Service, Bengaluru, Feb 10 2018, 13:39 IST

About 700 acres of land earmarked for the development of the Kempegowda Layout is under litigation and the government is taking steps to vacate those cases in court, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George told the Legislative Council on Thursday.

George was replying to JD(S) MLC N Appaji Gowda's query on the status of a piece of land (survey number 69) in Sulikere in Kengeri that was to be acquired for the development of sites under the Kempegowda Layout.

George said that 3.32 acres out of a total 4.12 acres were acquired in 2010. "The acquisition of 3.20 acres was struck down by the High Court in April 2016. The Bangalore Development Authority has challenged this," George said.

A total of 16,390 sites have been formed at the Kempegowda Layout, of which 5,000 sites have been allotted so far.

Steps will be taken to allot 5,651 sites in the next phase. "The allotment of 5,000 sites has generated a revenue of Rs 873 crore," George said.

Inquiry against Metro official. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) will be asked to carry out an inquiry against a senior official accused of ill-treating employees, Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George said.

He was replying to JD(S) MLC R Chowda Reddy Thoopalli."One Ramachandran was issued a show-cause notice for his behaviour. But he has been given a promotion," Thoopalli said, adding that top positions in the BMRCL are occupied by non-Kannadigas. George said he will direct the BMRCL managing director to hold an inquiry. George also promised to direct BMRCL to prioritize jobs for Kannadigas.
