Last Updated 09 February 2018, 18:01 IST

The Yuva Brigade, Mangaluru will clean Nandini river which flows near Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, on February 11.

The river is filled with clothes and other waste materials which have been polluting the water body, which in turn is affecting the creatures.

"Devotees who visit in large number in a year, dump their clothes in the river after taking a bath. The belief among the people is their sins or problems are washed in the holy water. Coconut and other eatables, photographs of gods and goddesses, are also dumped into the river," said the Yuva Brigade in a press release.

The cleaning drive will also aim to create awareness among devotees to not dump waste into the river. The drive will also impress upon the devotees their role in conserving the river and Kalyani in places of worship.
