Govt has spent Rs 330 cr under Shaadi Bhagya: Sait

A total of 66,010 women from various minority communities have benefitted from the Shaadi Bhagya scheme of the state government, Minister for Minority Welfare and Haj Tanveer Sait said.

Replying to Congress MLC Srinivas Mane in the Legislative Council on Friday, Sait said that the government had received as many as 78,725 applications in the last three years alone.

When the scheme was launched in 2013-14, the government had received 2,092 applications and had provided a financial assistance of Rs 10.46 crore to the beneficiaries, he said.

During the year 2017-18, the government has reserved Rs 159.26 crore, he said, adding that 31,853 applications have been received for the year.
Under the scheme, the government provides a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for the marriage of minority community women (Muslims, Christians, Sikh and Parsi) hailing from BPL families. Widows and divorcees too are eligible to apply under the scheme.
