Cong recalls Modi's 2014 campaign speech, asks questions on terror

Congress on Wednesday pulled out Narendra Modi's five questions posed to the then UPA regime over rising incidents of terror in Jammu and Kashmir to corner the NDA government.

Hitting out at Modi government, the Congress said the NDA's policies towards Kashmir and Pakistan have only led to "disquiet on the border" with Pakistan.

Congress also circulated Modi's election campaign speech of 2014 in which he posed five questions to the then UPA government  on how terrorists managed to sneak in through the borders, get access to arms and funds and the "inability" to intercept communication between terrorists and their handlers.

"The Congress is only repeating exactly what you (Modi) used to ask us," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said here.

"All the borders are under the central government's jurisdiction. Border Security Force comes under your jurisdiction," the Congress spokesperson said quoting Modi's exact words from the 2014 Lok Sabha campaign speech.

Singhvi said during the 45-month tenure of the NDA government, Modi had made no attempt to address the five questions he had put to the previous UPA regime.

"It shows utter hypocrisy and double standards. Not one of these five questions have been attempted to be answered by the ruling party and by our 56-inch chested Prime Minister. The 56 inches is only in talk and in paper tigers," Singhvi said.

He claimed the number of terror attacks, killing of soldiers and civilians have increased drastically under 45 months of Modi government when compared to a similar period under UPA regime.

Figures speak

In 45 months of the NDA government, there have been 207 terror incidents, while there were 96 incidents in the UPA's last 45 months, Singhvi claimed.

"In the same period, 286 jawans got martyred while during UPA the number was 115. During 45-month period of the NDA, 138 civilians have been killed, while in UPA's period the number of civilian deaths was 72," Singhvi claimed.

He claimed that there was a five-fold jump in 2,555 cases of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in 45 months of NDA rule against 543 during the UPA government.
