Bengaluru to get first electric vehicle charging point on Saturday

The city is all set to get an electric car charging point with the inauguration of the facility on Brigade Road on Saturday.

The project is being funded by the Centre's 'Fame India Scheme', which aims to promote electric mobility in select Indian cities.

The policy document states: "A total fund of not more than Rs 105 crore will be provided to each select city in the current FY 2017-18 for heavy electric vehicles and cars. Additional Rs 15 crore will be provided for charging infrastructure."

An official from the Department of Commerce and Industries said, "The charging point will be maintained by Bescom and the land will be provided by BBMP."

Mahendra Jain, additional chief secretary, urban development department, told DH, "This project is the part of Karnataka Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage Policy 2017. More electric vehicle charging points will be introduced in the city in the coming days."
