Natural treatment system would bring 12 MLD water to city

Bengaluru Development and Town Planning Minister K J George said the city would get 12 Million Litre per Day of water from the Thippagondanahalli reservoir in about eight months.

The minister laid the foundation stone for the Natural Biological System (NBS), which would allow  the BWSSB to grow varieties of plants to treat contaminated water in the TG Halli reservoir.

The NBS project would rejuvenate the Arkavathi river that flows to the Hesaraghatta Lake and reaches the reservoir. George also launched the sewage network-laying work for villages in Hesaraghatta.

NBS is a biological filtering system that would naturally degrade sewage. It is also designed to treat water in the dry season, allowing the Arkavathi river to flow freely with the rainwater.

The project has been awarded to Akhil Infra Projects Pvt Ltd for a cost of Rs 11.49 crore and is likely to be completed in eight months.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has also contributed Rs 9.3 crore for the project, while the state government has given Rs 23.45 crore.
