No entry for private vehicles to Shravanabelagola from today: SP

With Mahamastakabhisheka, head anointment ritual of Gommateshwara statue, beginning on Saturday, entry of vehicles into Shravanabelagola town has been banned from Friday. However, government vehicles will be allowed.

Addressing reporters here, Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar said parking arrangements have been made on either side of the roads at Channarayapatna, Hirisave, Melkote, Kikkeri routes and, the devotees will be ferried through KSRTC buses from there to Shravanabelagola.

With the Jain Mutt organising a mega rally on February 16, with more than one people expected to attend, changes have been made in traffic routes to reduce vehicular density. Parking arrangements have been made at 100 acres of land on Bengaluru and Hassan route, he said.

The Mahamastakabhisheka will be held from 2 pm till evening on Saturday. The general public will be allowed for darshan after 6 pm. Barricades have been erected to enable the devotees to have darshan of the Bahubali, standing in a queue. Temporary sheds have also been set up, the SP said.

The devotees will not be allowed to climb Vindhyagiri hill from February 18 to 25, while the Mastakabhisheka is performed. However, they will be allowed to have darshan after 2 pm, on these days, he said.
