The Professional Colleges Foundation have decided to accept the proposal of the medical education minister for 15% hike in the fee for postgraduate medical and dental seats.

The college managements had demanded a hike of 50%. However, in an earlier meeting with the minister Sharanprakash Patil, he had said that they could hike the fee by a maximum 15%. In a meeting on Friday, representatives of various colleges agreed to accept the proposal.

M R Jayaram,  chairman of the Professional Colleges Foundation, said that there was not much they could do at this stage but to accept. The association will now hold talks with the government on increasing the fee for undergraduate medical and dental seats.

Last year, the government had agreed to increase fee by 10% every year for three years. However, now the association will demand 15% to 20% hike in fees.

"With the sixth pay commission coming in, the salary of faculty will go up. We will demand for a hike in a meeting which is expected to be called in 15 days," Jayaram said.
