JOIN USThe state budget evoked mixed reactions from Bengalureans. While some looked forward to it with hope, others found it to be poll centric.
Srinivas Alavilli, a member of Citizens for Bengaluru said that strengthening public transport was the need of the hour. Our demand for the budget has been 'Double the bus fleet, halve the bus fares'. Hope some of this allocation goes to BMTC. The allocation to lakes seems to be too little too late. We need to invest big time in our lakes and stormwater drains and open wells, it will pay for itself."
"The city of Bengaluru generates so much of tax revenue for the state, yet it doesn't seem to get the adequate funds to cope with the massive growth," he added.
Srinivas also questions the government's actions "Where are the funds for STP? Ward level garbage management facilities? We don't need white topping we need pavements and walk signals!"
Speaking about the 'Youth helpline', Sangeetha K, a Business Management student said,"Most of the youngsters need the helpline because they are confused about their career and personal problems. This helpline will be helpful if used efficiently."
Firoze, an auto driver said,"Government has given good schemes ensuring the empowerment of backward classes, farmers, poor and the minority."
Ravi Shankar, a former government employee said that although the budget looks promising, the implementation should be ensured. "They had announced several things even in the last year's budget, but when will they actually implement it?" he asks.
Commenting on the budget Ravi said that the government has to show the public that it is capable of providing it, only then will the public will believe them.
Some also felt that the year's budget was focussed on the farmers and 'Ah Hin Da'(Minorities, Backward classes and Schedule castes owing to the upcoming polls. "This budget is just an eyewash and for the vote bank in the upcoming election," said Sudha R, a teacher.
G C Pentesh Kumar, an Ex-employee of Railways feels " This budget is a populist one as it takes care of all sections of the society."
