SC to hear rape suspect techie's plea for advance bail

The Supreme Court has agreed to consider the anticipatory bail petition moved by a  Bengaluru techie accused of raping a woman by promising to  marry her and then going back on his word.  

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice A M Khanwilkar agreed to urgently hear the petition moved by advocate K V Muthu Kumar on behalf of the petitioner. The court posted the matter for consideration next week.

The petitioner, who works in Helsinki, Finland, moved the apex court against an order issued by the  High Court of Karnataka  on July 20, 2017, rejecting his plea for anticipatory bail. A  sessions court in Bengaluru had earlier rejected his anticipatory bail application.  

In a complaint with the Koramangala police in 2016, the woman stated that both she and the 30-year-old suspect worked for Nokia Siemens. In August 2009, he proposed to her and established physical relationship with her at his friend's place in Koramangala. Their relationship  continued until November 2011 when he left for Finland. She could not contact him thereafter. In October 2016, the suspect's  friend told her he  would not be able to marry him.  

The petitioner denied the allegations, saying he has been working for Ericsson  in Finland since 2011 and that there was no possibility of him having any physical relationship with her.
