The assistant commissioner of the City Crime Records Bureau has filed an action taken report in the Karnataka High Court with regard to illegal flexes and banners installed in the city.

The report was produced before a division bench comprising of Justice H G Ramesh and Justice B M Shyam Prasad, hearing a public interest litigation filed by Mayige Gowda, a resident of Saraswathipuram, who urged the court to order the government to implement the act by framing rules and regulations.

According to the action taken report, of the 746 reported cases in 2018, 141 have been convicted, 192 are under investigation and 315 are pending trial.

The report contained data of complaints between 2014 and 2018 and the status of the cases.

The petitioner had earlier stated that there are over 23,000 unauthorised hoardings, flex banners and large advertisement boards on the city's pavements, endangering walkers. He said neither the BBMP nor the police had taken any action to remove them.

In the last hearing, the court had ordered the BBMP and the state government to stipulate what action they had taken against illegal flex boards and banners under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981.

The matter was adjourned to  Wednesday.
