The defence PSU, Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) will set up a 10 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) to rejuvenate the Doddabommasandra Lake.
The foundation stone for the STP was laid on Saturday near Vidyaranyapura.
BEL will set up the plant in collaboration with the Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority (KLCDA), BBMP and the Revenue Department, at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
The STP will be designed on the lines of the latest 'Sequential Batch Reactor' (SBR) technology, an advanced version of the well-established 'Activated Sludge Process' of the Central Public Health and Environment Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO).
BEL will construct the sewage treatment plant in the next 18 months and will maintain it for a period of 20 years.
