Missing techie case: probe leads to Delhi-based NGO

Last Updated 18 February 2018, 20:32 IST

Two months after software engineer Kumar Ajitabh (29) was kidnapped, a Special Investigation Team has found that he was in close contact with the founder of a Delhi-based non-profit charitable organisation.

The investigation revealed that Ajitabh was closely associated with Prem Rawat, the founder of Raj Vidya Kender (RVK).

The SIT officials are interrogating the RVK activists. The team met Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and sought information about habitual offenders who steal cars from other states.

Meanwhile, sources said that the suspect who used a mobile phone to open an account in OLX had purchased the handset at 'Mobile Park' outlet in Koramangala on November 4. He had, however, bought the SIM card in Kolar in October.

The investigating officers tracked the mobile phone and found that two people had used the handset after kidnapping Ajitabh.

The police identified them as J C Lakshman and his brother Shivakumar. The duo told the police that they found the Micromax Q402 mobile on December 19 on the road near Hebbal when they were loading bricks.

They threw the SIM card, inserted a different SIM and began using the phone. The police later found the SIM card and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for digital examination.

Who is Ramesh?

The suspects used the name "Ramesh" to purchase the mobile phone and also used a gmail account -soulfullramesh@gmail.com - to open an account on OLX. The SIT team has written to Google, OLX and also Facebook seeking details about these accounts.

The SIT officials have also verified the OLX accounts of 252 people who contacted Ajitabh.

The police found that while the suspects last used the handset in Hebbal, Ajitabh's phone was last operational in Gunjuru near Varthur.

Interestingly, though the mobile phone was purchased on November 4, it was activated only on December 18.

The shop owner told the police that the suspect had asked him as to how long the CCTV footage is stored in the shop. The shop owner had told him that they delete it once in a month.

The police also found that the suspect kept formatting the handset to erase the contact details. All the devices have been sent to the FSL to recover the memory.
