Chamarajanagar ZP president M Ramachandra, who is also the general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, will join BJP on Monday.

Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, Ramachandra said that he was joining the saffron party since BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa had promised to convince the Union government for granting ST tag to Parivara and Talavara communities. He added that he was not a ticket aspirant for the upcoming Assembly polls. He will join the BJP in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to address a party convention in Mysuru on Monday.

BJP is likely to field Ramachandra, who served as president of Chamarajanagar City Municipal Council, from Chamarajanagar or HD Kote (reserved) Assembly segment.

BJP leader V Somanna said that MLA C P Yogeshwar played a key role in bringing Ramachandra to the party. Somanna said that he was aspiring to contest the Assembly election from Govindarajanagar in Bengaluru or Hanur in Chamarajanagar district.
